There are many times that we see patients for conditions which require a followup examination. Some examples of these conditions are upper respiratory infections, urinary tract infections, ear infections, limb injuries, spinal injuries, and surgical procedures. Of course, this list is by no means comprehensive.
We have several reasons for scheduling follow-up appointments. For both illnesses and injuries, they give us the opportunity to make sure the patient is improving clinically, and to assess whether or not they require continued treatment. These appointments also afford us the opportunity to make any changes to the current treatment that may be necessary.
There have been many occasions when pet owners think that the pet is completely well but we are able to see through examination and lab work that the treatment should be continued for a little longer. This can mean the difference between another week or so of treatment versus months of incomplete treatments for the same illness or injury.
Following through on patient care is extremely important to our patients’ over all wellness. These appointments can prevent potentially costly and frustrating trips to the vet and keep your pet feeling healthy. We care very much about the welfare of our patients and always make recommendations to provide the best care possible.
